Police Investigate Shooting in Plantation; One Person Hospitalized

 

Plantation, Fla. — Police are investigating a shooting that occurred Monday afternoon in a residential area near NW 70th Avenue and NW 16th Street.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire around 3 p.m. and asked the public to avoid the neighborhood while they worked to secure the scene. As a precaution, Plantation Middle School was placed on lockdown, though authorities said there was no direct threat to the campus.

At 3:15 p.m., officials closed NW 70th Avenue from NW 11th Place to NW 16th Street to allow emergency crews to work safely.

By 3:29 p.m., police confirmed that one victim had been taken to a local hospital. No details about the person’s condition were immediately available. Officers reported that the area was secure, but continued urging residents to stay clear while the investigation continued.

The precautionary lockdown at Plantation Middle School was lifted at 3:38 p.m., and students and staff were allowed to resume normal activities.

Police have not released information about a suspect or the circumstances leading to the shooting. The investigation remains active.
